Charice casted with Alvin and the Chipmunks

This is straight from the left field, but in one fell swoop Charice will profile in a major hollywood movie. MAJOR!

Funfare has this report:

PhilStar – Funfare Update received a report from its Hollywood DPA that Charice is in the cast of Alvin and the Chipmunks 2, a live action-animation production by 20th Century Fox currently shooting in L.A. and slated to be shown in the Philippines in January 2010. It’s not clear yet what role Charice is playing. She will be on the movie’s set next week when members of the press drop by for a visit.

The five-time Grammy Award-winning and one-time American Music Award-winning animated music group started recording novelty songs in the ’50s. They have been featured in several TV shows and in movies, the latest having been Alvin and the Chipmunks which was released in Dec. 2007, directed by Tim Hill and starring Justin Long in the title role.

A Funfare Update friend saw Charice several days ago in Laguna before she and her mom Raquel flew to L.A. after performing at an event at the Shangri-La Plaza.

“She was speaking with a ‘strange’ voice,” the friend observed. “Now I knew why. She sounded like a Chipmunk. She must have been ‘internalizing’ already.”

It is not clear yet what role she will play. Even then, we know this film is going to be big. The first installment of Alvin and the Chipmunks earned more than $700 million in worldwide box office including DVD sales.

Wikipedia – …on a budget of $55-$60 million, it made nearly $220 million in North America box office, nearly $360 million in box office worldwide, and was the third-best selling DVD of 2008, earning over $127 million.

The success of the first movie means that there will be a lot of hype going into the release date. The second installment, officially titled Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel, is gearing for a December 25, 2009 release.  In fact, Disney had to bump up their Christmas offering titled The Princess and the Frog to December 11 to avoid the Chipmunks release.

CinemablendDisney picked the prestigious date of Christmas Day forever ago as the opening day for The Princess and the Frog, what it hopes to be the studio’s triumphant return to hand-drawn 2D animation. But when the princess found itself in a face-off against another family-friendly film that wanted the same release date, the Mouse House backed down. And that, children, is the story of how Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel has already bested a movie that actually looks good.

Princess will now be released on Dec. 11, a date that Variety notes is much better….

Truly, Charice will be a part of the success of this movie and even though there are still speculations on how big a role she is slated to play, the fact that she is part of a major movie is good enough. More than enough actually.

Another prediction for 2009 shattered by Charice.

Fingerprint Lyrics

Here is part of Charice’s new song Fingerprint demoed in Leeza Gibbon Oscar After Party.

How can I be sure
When everything is so confusing
I’m old enough to learn
That I’m too young to know what I’m doing
Gotta break free
From what used to be
It no longer makes sense for me
How do I stand out
In a world that’s all about fitting in
I’m certain of my doubts
But I wouldn’t be me for no reason
My identity
Right in front of me
There’s nobody else I wanna be like
I’m just trying to find
Find my fingerprint

This is probably her first solo interview for a local newspaper. Like we said, Charice is conquering the world. This time, one coffee sip at a time.

——————————-

Boston Herald – Internet sensation Charise Pempengo, the little 16-year-old Filipino girl with the very big voice, says nearly all her dreams have come true, save one – she’s dying to sing a duet with Whitney Houston.

Well, considering she’s already crooned with Celine Dion, Andrea Bocelli, Michael Buble and Alicia Keys, it’s totally not out of the question!

“I saw she sang at the Grammys,” Charise told the Track. “I hope that she is OK and can sing with me someday. I always listened to her songs when I was little.”

The young diva was in town to perform at the opening of the new Newbury Street coffee shop Nespresso Boston yesterday.

“My manager called and said I was going to perform at the opening and I was very, very excited. It’s my first time in Boston. It’s windy and I see a little snow!”

Charice Admits crush on David Archuleta

Written proof the Charice has a crush on David Archuleta. Now let us get that duet going.

Philippine Star: Cha also recalled with fondness her experience sharing a bus ride with Miley Cyrus and David Archuleta on their way to the Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade in New York City last November. Miley was her friendly seatmate who told her, “I’ve seen you several times on Oprah.” David Archuleta, on the other hand, was all agog being seated across Charice. He wanted oh-so-badly to have a photo with Cha but David felt helpless that “my camera is with my Mom.” So, Cha brought out her own camera and had their photo taken. After the parade, David Archuleta recounted his wonderful experience with Cha in his blogsite. David Archuleta wrote:

“I had seen Charice on YouTube before and she was at the Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade, but it was amazing to hear her story and her voice! She seriously has one of the best voices I’ve heard in a long time, and I had chills the entire time I was watching about her life on Oprah. She sang My Heart Will Go On during her appearance on Oprah, and it’s amazing to see how much passion she has for what she does! I also loved how she talked about how important her mom was to her.”

Kung alam lang ni David Archuleta (if only David knew), I was also so thrilled to see him that day! I just controlled myself in showing it to him,” Cha said in between giggles. David, she said, is definitely her crush. Next to her ultimate crush — Sam Milby.

Charice’s Reasons to Stay in the Philippines

In a hearty and interview of Charice, the young lass confided with Bum Tenorio whe she prefers to say in the Philippines rather than uproot herself and move to the United States. The article is probably one of the better articles featuring Charice and her personal side.

Philippine Star – How close are you to David Foster? I asked.

“Very close,” she said with a hearty laugh while gesturing to me with her tightly locked middle and index fingers to denote her closeness to the Canadian singer, composer and album producer. “He calls me his daughter, his baby.” (Last Feb. 4, Charice started recording with David Foster her first solo album in the States. It will hopefully be released before her 17th birthday on May 10. Dianne Warren, the songwriter who penned Because You Loved Me and I Don’t Want To Miss A Thing, was one of the composers writing songs for Cha. In fact, a little bird told me, David asked her to revise the song she wrote for Charice because “though it is powerful, the song needed more high keys that would be apt for Charice’s very high vocal range.”)

What you will learn in this article:

  • Diane Warren, the great composer who composed I don’t Want to Miss a Thing nd Because You Loved Me have written songs to be included in Charice’s album. If you want to know more about Diane Warren just google her.
  • The target date for her album’s release in the U.S. is May 10 – which is her birthday.
  • Charice is under Align Entertainment, the management outfit of David Foster, Andrea Bocelli, and Sarah Brightman.
  • THE MENTOR, AKA Oprah Winfrey, coached her on how to perform while on stage. Oprah also picked the dress for Charice when she performed in Madison Square Garden alongside Celine Dion.
  • No American food for her. Charice still loves her 555 sardines, Century Tuna, and Purefoods Corned beef. (That line is an endorsement in itself)
  • Charice has a crush on David Archuleta!

We know some rumblings about Charice being invited to one of the legs of David Archuleta’s U.S. Tour, and it looks like both sides of the fanbases think that it is a good idea. Accordingto FansofDavid, David (might – we hope!) sing with Charice. In one interview Charice stated that she has a simple crush with David Archuleta.

Also taken from the site is a photo of David and Charice before the Macy’s Thaksgiving Parade.

Charice Brings Tears in Pearl Presidential Pre-Inaugural Ball

Posted On: January 21, 2009

Charice made an impromptu appearance at another pre-inaugural ball. This time she performed at the Pearl Presidential Inaugural Gala held last January 19. This is her second Obama pre-inaugural ball performance after she earned a standing ovation in a gala called Realizing the Dream. Among those in the audience of the Pearl Ball is Loida Nicolas Lewis. We should also note that after she sang God Bless America during Realizing the Dream, Martin Luther King III was so touched with Charice that he had to give her a hug.

Hmmm.. it makes us curious how powerful Charice’s voice is to bring two separate audiences to tears.

Asian Journal - President Obama’s sister Maya Soetoro-Ng and her husband Conrad were both teary-eyed when Charice performed her show-stopping version of God Bless America at the Pearl Presidential Inaugural Gala held at the Mandarin Oriental on Monday, Jan. 19, the eve of the President’s historic swearing-in.

“That beautiful and powerful rendition, which came from this small package, is capable to shatter the biggest apathy in this world,” Soetoro-Ng told the audience as she hugged Charice.

Soetoro-Ng and her husband represented President Obama in the gala that gathered nearly 1,500 personalities and community leaders in the Asian American and Pacific Islander community.

Businesswoman and philanthropist Loida Lewis was instrumental in the decision to invite Charice to perform. Ms. Lewis and Millie Gurfinkel have both attended various fundraisers for the Democratic Party, and they discussed about the wonder girl that is Charice. Loida then conferred with the gala co-chairs Gloria Caoile and Francey Lim Youngberg for the inclusion of Charice in the program.

“Charice is now an international symbol of not getting adversity get you down. She is the symbol of what Barack Obama says, ‘Yes, I can!’ She rightfully deserves to be here in the biggest gathering of Asian American leaders,” Lewis told the Asian Journal.

In the Martin Luther King, Jr. pre-inaugural gala aptly called Realizing the Dream, Charice was the finale performer. She also sang God Bless America, and was immediately hugged onstage by the hero’s son, Martin Luther King III.

“Sobrang kaba ko po, kasi first time ko kasi na kakantahin yung God Bless America sa harap ng ganito katinding audience,” Charice told us at the Hyatt moments before the event.

It turns out that she did not need to worry one bit. The audience, including the dignitaries who attended—Sen. Edward Kennedy’s son Ted, Queen Noor, Atlanta Rep. John Lewis—loved her performance.

The event was held to commemorate the birthday of Martin Luther King, Jr., as well as the celebration of the Realizing Dream Awards. This year’s awardees were Sen. Edward Kennedy, Rep. John Lewis, Burma’s Daw Aung Sang Suu Kyi and Rev. Claude William Black.

Charice to stay in the U.S. for good?

Posted On: January 20, 2009

Based from the most recent Charice interview, she was asked whether she wants to stay in the U.S. for good. Those who watched the report will know that she does not lot look like she is not warm to the idea of uprooting their live here and leave the Philippines. In a report last November, Mrs. Racquel Pempengco also isn’t thrilled with the idea of staying in the U.S. Charice said that one of the reason why she does not want to leave the Philippines is because she does not want to be forgotten by Filipinos at home.

However, when Charice’s career in the U.S. takes flight, many fans believe that living permanently abroad is inevitable. Although a lot of Charice’s fans here may feel bummed and left out, many are happy that we have this Filipino singer who is realizing her dream and who are we to stop her? And if Oprah recommends that Charice should stay in the U.S., I think it will be hard to say no to Ms. O.

On the other hand, Charice is born and raised her in the Philippines and contrary to popular belief  living in the U.S. is not an easy decision. Not everyone wants to live in the U.S. and Charice may be one who just does not want to move. All her friends are here, and her true personality shows when she is at home. If she is not able to adjust properly, even her career in the U.S. might suffer.

It is a tough decision, but then no one can stop a Force of Nature (–Bocelli), wherever she may be
